Song of Summer #23: The Apple

In the midst of some big-name single releases this week, the silent killer is VV Brown's The Apple. Brown's previous single, Samson, fell flat with me, but this one - produced with Pascal Gabriel - is an icy kiss-off that happens to bang hard. It's not just me (Popjustice) that's noticed the track has a certain Grace Jones quality on the verses. It's the best thing VV has ever done.

The Apple is out now on iTunes US, soon to follow elsewhere. The video is freaky.

I kind of thought she was over. As you said, 'Samson' was a bit of a non-starter for me but this was a refreshing listen (and a nice change of pace from the Katy / Gaga drama of the last few days!)

Reminds me of the sound Blue Pearl created on their 1990 (and only) album. Best known for Naked in the Rain, but I'm thinking more about the other tracks like Little Brother and Chemical Thing. Anyone remember?

The album is a revelation, a grower that takes its time to become amazing!
