The king of rock'n roll, completely

Mojo Magazine has a new piece on Prefab Sprout's brilliant leader, Paddy McAloon, that is inspiring, frustrating and ultimately a little bit sad. It reminds me that we just cannot let our lives get away from us. Paddy is raising three kids, so he's not really done that, but he has some issues he cannot overcome that have been hindering his art for many years.

“No, heart, you should be a writer”

I like it when you call me heart, xolondon. When I was little, my Mum used to call me “her little heart”. It reminds me of that. She dead now, of course. Dead dead dead. Sometimes, when I miss her too much, I come on your site and read your words and I feel a little warm inside. Other times I just climb to the top of a mountain and throw little things off. Like car parts, bottles or cuttlery, or whatever I find lying around. I’ve never met you xolondon, but you write about music (mostly the sound of NOW!) in a way that penetrates me right through to the heart like that guy did in the Indiana Jones film. Never stop hon.

Thanks for the link to the Mojo article. As a recent convert of Paddy's, it is a little disheartening to hear about his personal battles. It seems like he would love to live just to create finely crafted pop records in a world where an unfortunate few will support him financially unless he is on a stage. Wouldn't it be great if he just got his own label and began releasing all this stuff he's kept locked away for years? Maybe then he'd have the last laugh, and people could see what a true genius he was/is.

An interesting, touching and sad read. Thank goodness he was persuaded to release 'Let's Change The World With Music' which I'm anxiously awaiting. I believe Paddy is a genuine musical genius and like a lot of geniuses, it seems he has a lot of personal demons and eccentricities to deal with.

I continue to love your blog - my daily fix of great new music. So, its the 8th here in NZ and I can't buy the Prefab Sprout album online because Amazon and Play block my territory (ouch) - any idea where I can buy an MP3 album? I wanna give Paddy some cash rather than a free download.

Thanks
D

I don't have an answer or I would have done it. I did order a copy via snail mail, but I've even seen a leak.
