Florence & The Machine's Lungs is one of my most-awaited albums this year. iTunes UK has samples from the full-length CD, not out until July 6. On first listen, some potential standouts include Rabbit Heart (of course), Howl, Cosmic Love, My Boy Builds Coffins, Girl With One Eye and potentially the Greatest Song Ever Recorded, Swimming, which boasts a seriously Cloudbusting-esque string section.
Drowned In Sound panned Lungs (I can't bear to link to it), venting much spleen over what they called "a really gay Sarah McLachlan" record. I'm a proponent of personal opinion, but some writers get off entertaining themselves with clever-but-wanky putdowns. Apparently this guy expected the whole album to be the punky sound of Kiss With A Fist. Just because Florence, presumably, does not scream her way through the album doesn't mean it's MOR disco. All will be revealed in July and we can decide for ourselves.
For those who've not seen it, here is Florence's video for Dog Days Are Over. I don't love the styling - it reminds me of The Mighty Boosh on a hash-filled campout.
