I grew up to the beat of electronic drums
true story - until about 2004 Whitney was my second fave female artist ever behind Deb Gibson. Oh my.
Don't want to be a downer, 'cause even Britney could come back from the brink, but I think after Bobby Brown's show, this career may be beyond resuscitation. She was even MORE shocking on that show than Bobby, especially since most of the public had a somewhat idealized vision of how saintly she was, being a movie star from films like Bodyguard and Preacher's Wife. I'll never forget the story of how he helped pull the poo out of her. When was the last time we heard her sing REALLY well live? I think the voice is pretty shot. "I bee-lieve in mir-a-cles..."
Hers is one of the saddest stories in pop I think. Instead of a legacy, her lasting memory will be more for the infamy of becoming a junkie. I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious, but I agree with countpopula above. She's missed her chance.
countpopula and Phil - hit it on the head boys. It is sad and I, as well, can never forget watching that episode when she and Bobby were fucked up at that restaurant talking about how constipated she was. I think she blew it. She is probably relying on all sorts of studio wizardry to "get the voice back". She stripped it smoking all that shit. I think Amy Winehouse can still make it - but as for this hot mess - I think she has missed the train!
I guess now there will be more grit vocally - but that gliding vansihing point soar will be tough to replicate, and even more difficult to listen to her struggle. Maybe all this time has been spent repairing her voice: I was reluctant, but a 2007 Count On Me wasn't totally disappointing. That Thunderpuss remix is still gigantic - if only she could pull that off live, hush the audience down into an unbearable silence, then continue "you were making a fool of meeeeEEEEEEEEEwhahaha" before collapsing under the deafning applause. One can dream..
Agreed about that Thunderpuss remix of "It's Not Right" being still "Gigantic. Hell, I think that most of remixes T-Puss did for her were stellar. If there is a moment for that duo in Thunderpuss to re-unite, now is the time with that album coming out soon and re-work a track or two from it.
I love Junior's stompy How Will I Know.I am not writing her off yet. I think her head and heart are in the right place, so let's see what happens. If it's terrible, then I will scream WHY DOES IT HURT SO BAD?
