Little boots, lotsa tacky

Little Boots New In Town:

PopJustice just debuted New In Town, the new video by Little Boots. He calls it slightly odd, which I think is a diplomatic way of saying "slightly crap." It'll be interesting to see how Little Boots career goes. She has major label backing and, really, this video is evidence why that's not always a good thing. It's pandering on many levels, from the trite contrast of well-dressed blond girl in the midst of a bunch of homeless people, to the bizarre blowjob choreography at the end. It also would have been better had she actually danced. This version does have the beautiful middle eight, which comes at the point when it becomes night in the video.

Note, iTunesUK has 30-second samples of all the songs on the new album. Symmetry, with Phil Oakey, still sounds like the one I'll really dig.

Poor LB. The video is crap :( I am quite sad about that because i really like the song, and i think Little Boots could have a decent if probably not massive sized first album career based on what i've heard so far. But i thought that about frankmusic and he debuted at 26 :( (Not the last we've heard of him i'm sure though)

I have to disagree- I think it's hysterical and great. Very 80's, very silly, cheap AND scary at the same time. And it's nothing like all the other videos out there right now. I am curious to know what you guys thought her video would or should have been. I think she just succeeded in one-upping Lady Gaga

If the idea was a "stranger in a strange place," I think it could have been a lot more clever. Jake Nava's videos never wow me - his new Britney video is a muddle of themes. Now, if you KNOW Jake, ignore all that I've said!

ugh, I can't get behind her. I think she's really mediocre. Like a British LAdy Gaga or something. I need a bit more personality. I find La Roux to be a lot more interesting/personality-filled, even when her voice is shrill.

On PJ Forums, Little Boots is hailed as genius when there is nothing "genius" about her (yet if ever), She is so.. blond. And by that I mean, she's just like everyone else. Not to mention the fact there are rumblings around the scene that she is less than kind as a person - not that I've met her!

La Roux, I cannot get behind her voice. Love her look though. Viva gingers.

She looks like a Craig's List masseuse in the video- I think that's the point. I didn't read her as posh at all heheheh... I think people enjoy the fact that she can actually play a piano. I love her, but I have extremely dubious, untested taste. I suppose... ;-)

Maybe that's part of the issue - the masses that will make her a star have no idea she can play the piano or that she is DIY. So my spin on the video might have told you more about the artist: Have her on a Casio on an LA street corner with various people and events happening around her. I personally would have ended my version of that storyline with a moment where some non-crazy gave her a flower or brought her into a dance routine or something.

JDD, I don't think you have dubious tastes, btw, from what little I know!

Wow, I'm actually really liking this. The production on the song just slams when the chorus comes in, and her voice is rather unassuming in an every-person sort of way--not over the top.

I can see where people might not like this at first in the way La Roux rubs also, but these are their debut recordings, so there is some room to grow. Think about how Madonna's first record was--great, but she definitely got bigger & better with time.

I actually like the video's three scenarios--glamour girl in the middle of street urchin scene, in a gang dance-off scene, and a raunchy street-porno scene. All the while, Little Boots has the power to unite them all! Could uniting the misfits be a career manifesto?

I like the song, but the video was obnoxious.

Videos's taken down now. Cheap.

But I was sure this broad would at least be the next Morningwood, the way everyone's thumbing themselves over her.

Screw this, people; for a real legit star download Heidi Montag's new EP off iTunes!!
