Pillars of salt and pillars of sand

Coldplay has done the first video cover that I can remember. After admiring Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence (like we all do), the band decided to their own version set to their new song. Anton Corbijn directed both. What do you think?

I didn't know how to feel about this. DM's video came out like 19 years ago! So the new kids today watching this may think it's original. :) I'm sure Coldplay is doing a nice homage to DM by doing this.

Anyway, it's a cool coincidence as I just wrote a little blurb on Enjoy The Silence on my blog yesterday afternoon.

I cannot believe Enjoy The Silence is that old. God, I'm old! Despite the years, it still sounds fresh though! Coldplay's homage is kinda cute..

This is fantastic! SO much better than the airbrushed video they had. I know Anton has done this before, but here it has been infused with Coldplay's humor.

Was it filmed at Chris Martin's house? Some digs!

That's tre cool. What a tribute for DM. Coldplay just went up a notch in the world of my eyes.

It's nice to see Coldplay display a touch of humour occasionally, and it's a great homage to DM.

However, the original is such a towering classic I'm not sure the new version holds up so well.

It's funny that for what is arguably Coldplay's best song (and its most popular to date) they haven't quite nailed it on video, despite a few attempts. Compare to Violet Hill, which I think captures the mood of the song perfectly.

I've been obsessed with this song all summer. It's cheesy, but I want to ride in a convertible while this song is blasting, stand up and spread my arms in the wind.
