The Middle Eight

I grew up to the beat of electronic drums

Right now they're playing our song

Promoters have been sending out info about the April 1 release of Kylie's X album in the States. Today I received the stream of All I See (below) and played it like 10 times in my office, which says something about the state of pop music in the past few weeks. I am obsessed with this song all over again. I still think it's so unexpectedly pretty. The sum is much lovelier than the cookie cutter parts.

While I'm glad they're promoting Kylie in the States, I resent their blatant pandering to the R&B scene with their choice of, in my opinion, the weakest song on the record.

    Just my .02

There are plenty of songs that could see her have another successful run in the US; but then again, looking at the state of our pop radio right now... I don't know.

I finally heard X yesterday. I've never been a huge fan but I've always admitted that when she's good, she's good. There are some nice moments on the CD but ultimately it feels very schizophrenic and pandering to me. It's like instead of being Kylie, they were trying to make her Janet or Britney or [insert generic US pop/R&B star here]. I'm not impressed.

Don't give up on the CD - it's quite good in spots, though the bad stuff (Nudity, for example) is dreck!

I don't think America would really be up for Kylie at the moment, but who knows. She would need to have a killer video for All I See to really get noticed. Many of the Americans who like her already have the album, I suspect.

I suppose they've chosen the right single for America. Although it sounds like Janet Jackson... and that may not be a good thing at the moment.

    Good point re Janet!

I think All I See kinda beats Janet at her own game. Yes, there are probably better songs on X, but this is a good intro for the US. In My Arms, Speakerphone, or
2 Hearts could probably do well here also (I happen to like X quite a lot, actually).
