I grew up to the beat of electronic drums
I'm sorry to hear that, but their last good album was in 1993 (and... what an album it was) but since Gillian Gilbert left it's like they totally lost their way. That, for me, is when New Order truly ended.
They'll play together again. It's not like they've been putting albums out consistently all this time.... They're just old and cranky with each other. Like Tricky said, they really haven't been a fully functioning band since 1993, and only occasionally got together for shows starting in the late '90s, and the two albums since then (where's the third they claimed was in the can two years ago??????)....
Oh dear. Another icon of my high school soundtrack gone.
I actually really liked their last CD, which has some lovely songs. As long as Hook and Sumner were on board, the sound was still distinctly NO. The Rosebud's new songs Get Up Get Out and Cemetery Lawns are both excellent New Order rips. You can probably hear those on mypace.Sylvia I need to make you a mix...
I got allot of listening out of WFTSC so I think NO had more to give. If this is really the end of the band, if you track down the clip the news is dropped so casually that it seems to leave things open, then they still have a fair amount of material waiting to be released. I believe they have already recorded the music for the Control soundtrack and have half an album that is sitting around somewhere that may have set off this tension because Hooky was talking about it a couple of months ago because he was displeased with it and the pop producer they worked with. Time will tell I suppose.
That's too bad. They seem to release a lot of "Best Of..." albums. You think there's another one in the works? "Power Curruption & Lies" and "Low-Life" are among my favorite albums. Peter's bass playing was (I always thought) to be so unique as to use it as more of a lead instrument. I've always loved their "not too polished" way of recording their music.
Again? We'll see. I predict there will be another album in 2010.
Take this with a grain of salt. It's not like they didn't make great music when they weren't New Order either (except for maybe Revenge). I still enjoy Monaco, Electronic, & the Other Two.For New Order fans, the Rosebuds new CD will win you over.
