A MUST: Said The Gramophone has a post about the song "Wild Is The Wind" - both Nina Simone and David Bowie have done amazing versions of this song - loved 'em both for years. The MP3s are there and I urge you to download them and live with them a bit. They're very different but equally moving. Be sure to read some of the comments...

Have you ever heard Billy Mackenzie's version of this song. I think it may be my favorite, even surpassing the other two (and I love those also). It was issued last year on his CD "Transmission Impossible". Even more haunting to know he died soon after recording it at the tender age of 39 of a suspected overdose of anti-depressants.
Ooh, I'm going to have to look it at. I adore the song. Didn't know Nina Simone did a version, but I know very little about her. Cat Power also did a version of it. (I know very little about them as a group though.)
It amuses me what similar people do covers of. Or diverse people of. Like Sisters of Mercy covering "Comfortably Numb" Bauhaus doing "Ziggy Stardust" and everyone and their brother doing a cover of "Knocking on Heaven's Door." Some of it makes sense; some of it makes none whatsoever.
The reason am thinking about this at all is that I got a bunch of music from my friend's "vast" music selection and while sorting through the multiple copies of the songs, have been noticing the patterns.
